Communication is the thread that ties people together and the loss of this ability can prove detrimental to one’s mental health and overall well-being. Kanika experienced this first hand when she witnessed the effect on a loved one’s language, social interactions and ability to perform basic communicative tasks. It is for this reason why Kanika went into the field of Speech Pathology. Kanika obtained her Bachelor’s of Linguistics from Rutgers University in 2008 and her Masters of Speech Language Pathology from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus in 2011. Kanika holds her Speech Pathology license in New York & New Jersey, as well as the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). While she believes that communication is a right for all throughout the lifespan, she developed a keen interest for the treatment of acquired swallowing, speech, language, and cognitive disorders post neurological insult or secondary to neurodegenerative disease. Kanika is a Certified Vital Stim specialist with a specialty in stroke recovery.

With a familial background hailing from the twin isles of Trinidad and Tobago, Kanika has a particular interest for cultural diversity. She is passionate about working with people of different ethnicities and with various linguistic backgrounds. We all communicate regardless of the vehicle used.

Aside from providing quality care at Speech Bar, Kanika enjoys all things beauty, flexing her creativity muscle through DIY house projects, traveling and hosting dinners with her friends & family.
