What is Speech Language Pathology?

Speech Language Pathology is a field of practice that diagnoses speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders., which all fall under the umbrella term of communication disorders. Through the use of standardized and non-standardized assessments the Speech Language Pathologist identifies the area(s) of impairment and creates a plan of treatment to habilitate or rehabilitate communication. The goal of speech therapy is to optimize communication skills, thus improving quality of life.

“Loneliness does not come from having no one around us, but, instead, from being unable to communicate the things that matter most to us.”
