About Speech bar
Get to know me
The ability to communicate one’s wants, needs, desires, fears or concerns is a fundamental right deserved by all, regardless of age, cultural background or primary language. As a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, I have had the pleasure of working with a variety of individuals throughout my years of practice. From children ages 0- 3 in the Early Intervention Program, young adults in acute rehab and older adults in long-term care. Each demographic required a different approach to therapy and taught me something new.
However, the biggest challenge I faced was helping my own daughter communicate when I realized she was struggling to do so as expected. It was only then that I had a first hand experience of what it felt like to be the parent of a child requiring extra support to enjoy a basic need awarded to all of us. Despite over ten years experience working with young children I felt like a fish out of water when it came to my own daughter. There was a lot of fear, shame, and confusion. I wanted to do it all for her to help her, but my time was limited as I was a working professional, I had another child in the home that needed my attention as a mom and I felt pulled in so many directions. Sounds familiar?
Speech Bar is for the parent that has limited time, limited energy, and limited resources, but has a determination to help their child in any way they can. The resources you will find here are what I used and still use today. I know I am my daughter’s best teacher and so are you!
